Now, let's dive into the intriguing stories of the twelve Apostles and discover the truth behind their final days.
Number 12: Simon, who is called Peter The Bible does not provide specific details about the Apostle Peter's death. According to the widely accepted tradition within the church, Peter was crucified in Rome, but in an unusual manner—upside down. This tradition suggests that when Peter was sentenced to death, he requested to be crucified on an inverted cross. The reason behind his request was his acknowledgment of having denied Jesus, and he believed he was unworthy to die in the same manner as his Lord (referencing Matthew 26:3, 33-35, 69-75).
However, it's important to note that this account is based on tradition and is not confirmed or denied by the Bible. What we can be certain of regarding Peter's death is a prophecy made by Jesus in John 21:18-19. Jesus said to Peter, "Truly, truly, I say to you, when you were young, you used to dress yourself and walk wherever you wanted. But when you are old, you will stretch out your hands, and another will dress you and carry you where you do not want to go." Jesus spoke this to indicate the kind of death by which Peter would bring glory to God. By foretelling the manner of Peter's death, Jesus may have been preparing him for the challenges he would face after Jesus' resurrection, as Peter would no longer have His physical presence.
