Merrick's life sciences team supported the Universidad Autonoma de San Luis Potosi (UASLP) with the redesign and adaption of the university's existing Viral and Human Genomics Laboratory in order to allow it to operate as a BSL-3 facility. The lab conducts vital medical research, currently including Hepatitis B virus (HBV) epidemiology and genomics; human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) burden, genomics, and drug resistance; influenza virus genomics and molecular epidemiology; as well as research into special pathogens, emerging infectious diseases, and human diversity in the region. Our team provided BSL-3 planning, complete HVAC and controls redesign, and commissioning services in compliance with the standards established in the Biosafety in Microbiological and Biomedical Laboratories (BMBL) 6th Edition. The new BSL-3 lab, which is the first of its kind for the UASLP, will provide critical infrastructure and training for diagnostic and research for emergent and reemergent pathogens.
