The 2025 Hyundai Tucson is coming to Australia by mid-2024, when it hopes to flip the mainstream mid-size SUV segment on its proverbial head by introducing a new challenger to the all-conquering Toyota RAV4 Hybrid. Yep, the mid-life facelift to the fourth-generation South Korean model means serious business.

So, what does the Tucson Hybrid have in store? Well, it combines a 1.6-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder engine with an electric motor as part of its 'self-charging' series parallel hybrid system, with buyers set to be offered the choice between front- or all-wheel drive.

In this walkaround preview, CarsGuide Contributing Journalist Stephen Ottley spends some time with the new Tucson at the New York motor show, covering not only what else to expect from the new Hybrid but also the rest of the range, which has undergone a series of updates, including the timely deletion of the turbo-diesel engine option.
