FPV racing tech evolves quickly. Everyone is striving to find a way to squeeze out more performance. Well I believe this may be a good candidate for a setup offering improved torque performance over a standard 4s race setup. Initial flight tests are VERY promising.

Setup:

Frame: Catalyst Machineworks Merica 5"
Motors: Brother Hobby 2207-1660kv
Lipo: Pulse 6s 1050mah 45C
ESC: Raceflight Bolt V2
FC: Skitzo (running current RF1 firmware)
Props: Genfam 5152 Tri
Cam: the usual
VTX: the usual
RC RX: do you really care?

The idea is to use a high voltage lipo coupled with a very low KV motor. Target theoretical RPM should be in the same ballpark as an equivalent 4s setup using a common KV rated motor, such as 2400-2500kv. As we increase voltage the amperage required in the system is reduced. Even on a 45C pack with me thrashing the living crap out of it the pack came down barely warm. No matter what I did I could not get the pack to heat up...My testing shows a number of other benefits:

1) Longer run times for similar thrust output
2) Less sag for the entire pack translating into more available thrust for the run, start to finish
3) More low end torque than a 4s 2500kv setup due to super low KV and high voltage
4) Cheap lipos (This 6s lipo costs $20 - $27 retail)

Full charge 4s lipo (16.8V) x 2500kv = 42,000 theoretical RPM
Full charge 6s lipo (25.2V) x 1660kv = 41,832 theoretical RPM

Please keep in mind these are my initial impressions from testing...Looks very promising. What I am noticing is more torque due to the ability to use a very low KV motor (1660kv). Where if I were using a 4s lipo my KV is much higher on the motor and it doesn't have the ability to swing that Genfam 5152 to such a high RPM... The higher kv motor doesn't have the grunt this setup does. 6s pack makes this possible. Races are won in the corners. A setup with a ton of torque down low has an advantage in track racing.
