This video is a follow-up to my first comparison video on digital microscopes. There are some things about that initial video that I think would be good to elaborate on further, based on many of the comments that were left on it. In this video, I’ll do a deeper analysis on the images from each of the digital microscopes in an effort to hopefully address some shortcomings the other video has.

I start by explaining why I was interested in doing this comparison, and why it matters to me in the first place. I enjoy looking at silicon chips and other electronic components under the microscope, and I have often wondered how these microscopes stack up against the ones that I use. I wanted to know if I could feel comfortable recommending them to others looking to observe silicon chips for themselves.

The result of that comparison was that none of the six digital microscopes that I evaluated met my expectations for chip viewing. That doesn’t mean that I’m done evaluating digital microscopes though. There are plenty of more interesting options available, and I plan to do more of these comparisons in the future. I enjoy doing the teardowns, and find the comparisons just as interesting as it seems like many of you do.

After going over a few definitions, this video revisits the images captured from the previous six digital microscopes. I compare them directly to one another using my favorite open source image software, Inkscape. I also include comparisons to the photos taken with my microscope camera and cellphone’s camera, which is what I use to record video through the microscope .The video wraps up with going over some more details about my two optical microscopes.

Many more videos are in the pipeline, and I’m looking forward to putting the finishing touches on them. Future videos that are in progress that I’m currently working on:

Digital Microscope Comparison V2
Microscope Automation Project
LED module replacement for the Halogen Bulb
Various other device teardowns and chip inspections
