Have you noticed your dog barking out at your window whenever there's someone passing by your house? Ever wonder why your dog does that? To be able to address this issue, we need to look at it and think from the dog's perspective.

So your dog is looking out of your window and and then someone approaches your home, your property, just to pass by, and your dog barks at him non-stop until he's gone. You see, we humans have bred dogs to protect us and alert us when they see changes in their surroundings. The dog live in your house and he therefore treats it as his territory. When someone passes by he most likely just want to protect you and his territory that's why he barks out the window til the passerby is gone. It's innate to the dog to do that because they are somehow bred to do that. Also, when the man passing by, your dog barks at him and he just continues on his way, the dog thinks that the person went away because of him, because his barking has scared the man away. That result is actually rewarding for the dog and this negative behavior could also lead to negative behaviors in other aspects of their lives.

So what do you do when your dog barks out the window? Simple answer to that question is that is eliminate your dog's access to the window. It is actually impossible for you to correct that barking out the window behavior because you cannot control every aspect of every circumstance. In order to address this issue, you need to recreate the scenario and address your dog's behavior during that experience. But since you cannot control people passing by your house, the best way to stop this dog behavior is to eliminate his access to the window. That's the best possible solution to stop your dog's negative behavior.
