Textbook design cues meet fantastic thrills. This is the 2022 BMW M240i. Everything I learned in Design school has been applied to this car. The new angled design language creates the perfect reflections during sunset. The 382 horsepower and 369 lb/ft of torque produced by the inline six, 3.0 liter turbo engine creates a familiar tone and unexpectedly fast acceleration.
The biggest draw of this particular BMW M240i? Its magnificent Thundernight Metallic Purple paint. A color that may seem overwhelmingly playful at first sight actually fits the nimble canyon carver so well. The 1 and 2 series BMW models have always been slightly uncomfortable to look at, mainly due to the forced proportions. Although at first glance the 2022 M240i is still odd and eye-catching, a moment of examination reveals the beauty in plain sight. All of the design efforts are evident when sunlight hits the front or rear 3/4 angle.
The X Drive system offers just enough control to push your confidence through the roof while maintaining a somewhat analog driving experience. The 2022 M240i in Sport Mode with the 8 Speed ZF transmission gave me a hell of an experience. I learned far too late that the auto mode held an aggressive shift pattern while sprinting up and down the canyons. Although, I will am highly anticipating the M2 model with a manual transmission.
