The 2022 Volkswagen Golf R looks ready to battle with its rivals Honda Civic Type R and Hyundai Velostern N. The new Mk8 Golf R version is full of improvements and has a more powerful 315hp turbo-four-cylinder engine and all-wheel-drive system called 4motion with a drift mode comparing to it’s a bit slower brother Mk8 Golf GTI. A bunch of exclusive equipment and subtle design details also work to separate it from GTI version, with which it shares a modern interior and latest technology.

After being on a pause since the 2019 model year, the Golf R returns to U.S. shores in 2022. Its resurrection follows the release of the eighth-generation Golf GTI. Volkswagen are planning to stop selling regular Golf Hatch and Station wagons and GTI and R versions will be only versions North Americas shores will reach, although that’s not a problem, because they are the most desired anyways.
Under the hood it has a 2.0 inline-four-cylinder gasoline egine with 315hp and 310 lb-ft of torque – from 288hp and 280 lb-ft of torque in the latest Generation R model from 2019. The engine is combined with six-speed manual or a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The 4motion all-wheel-drive system is standard and has a rear differential that can actively distribute torque between the left and right rear wheels for improved handling. Golf R has plenty of selectable drive options - Comfort, Sport, Race, Special, Drift, and Individual and is activated by pressing “R” button on the steering wheel. Every model has sport exhaust system, variable-ratio steering and larger front disc brakes than ever before. It Also rides on a set of 19-inch rims combined with summer performance tires.
