Hi guys, Dad here. Get The MasterSmith's Toolkit Today. It's a downloadable PDF that brings together all the tools and materials Mastersmith Kyle Royer uses for knifemaking in one convenient place. It's Free if you click here: https://www.learnknifemaking.com/mast...
I'm (dad) tackling my second JS test knife. It's been a while since I worked with single carbon knives, but the judges require it for this Journeymen test knife.
I start by tapering the tang using a surface grinder, then move on to the plunge grind and blade edge geometry. The convex edge requires precision and patience to perfect.
When it comes to the handle, I use Honduran Rosewood burl for the scales and incorporate brass inserts for both aesthetics and functionality.
After securing the handle with pins and epoxy, I move on to sharpening, aiming for that hair-popping edge we all love.
The end result is a knife I'm really proud of. The tapered tang and overall craftsmanship make it stand out. Thanks for watching, and until next time, may the forge be with you!
