Representing over 30 years of research and incredible hand-crafting of a narrow-gauge railroad by renowned artist and model railroad influencer, Harry W. Brunk. The sheer meticulous attention to detail in this layout is absolutely amazing with surprises constantly appearing.

This railroad ran into Colorado's Rocky Mountains from 1872 to 1941. he Union Central & Northern Railroad is Brunk's version of the Clear Creek Division of the Colorado and Southern Railroad in the late 1920s and 30s.

Harry built the layout in a 12-foot by 65-foot mobile home, which he called Little Colorado. Little Colorado was beginning to deteriorate, and Harry's age was preventing him from maintaining the layout as much as he would have liked. It was decided that the UC and N would be moved here into the baggage attic above the west wing of the museum.

All of the buildings and rolling stock were packed up, and the move took place in October of 2011. Little Colorado was moved slowly across Nebraska and into Wyoming using the frontage road on Interstate 80. The layout was cut into 10 to 15-foot sections determined by individual scenes. Several of the large sections took special measures to be installed. The glass in the second-floor windows was removed and the sections that could not fit through the door or up the stairwell had to be loaded onto an industrial forklift and lifted in. It took a team of volunteers a full year to put the layout back together and the exhibit opened in May of 2012.

The model railroad starts out with an addition to Harry's layout with the Golden Colorado yard and round house, completed all by volunteer efforts complete with a functional turntable at the roundhouse.

The train layout ha numerous operating switches with the controls locked away from curious little fingers which could lead to problems.

Before we follow down the complete track layout created by Harr, we will make note of the placards for visitors to read, placed about the track which include Harry's sketches along with vintage photographs transitioning to the items on the train layout.
