We are still in exploring Newark, NJ arguably one of the most notorious cities in the country and definitely on the East Coast. Today we will be driving through parts of the South and West Wards historically it's worst areas to see how things are today. Newark is surrounded by wealth and prosperity, with Manhattan only being 16 miles east, and Jersey City practically next door it's a wonder it's taking so long to trickle over. We drive along Bergen Street, Clinton, Hawthorne and Avon Avenues and eventually get over to Springfield Ave passing landmarks and hot spots along the way. Newark was/is known for it's dilapidation, crumbling infrastructure, menacing public housing and just flat out being lawless. The city is trying to make strides in all these areas. We are very familiar with the city of Newark and have been visiting this area for years so we can see the change. This is the best the city has looked and most functioning the city has ever been (in my lifetime). My question is, will the city continue on upward path? Does this look like an inviting city to you?
