The Comedian, also known as Edward Morgan “Eddie” Blake, is one of the most sinister characters to be called a hero. Even though he is a vigilante closely associated with superheroes and the Government, his actions speak otherwise. He first debuted in the first issue of the Watchmen, a limited series graphic novel published in September 1986. The irony in the name of the Comedian is surprising, to say the least, considering he isn’t funny at all but rather blunt and brutal like a brawler. Writer Alan Moore collaborated with illustrator Dave Gibbons to create The Comedian. At times, the Comedian exhibits profound meditation on his own brutish character as well as real grief over humanity's predicament. The Comedian has the longest crime-fighting career of all of the world's costumed vigilantes.
