Top 20 Lies We Learned In School
As kids, we believed everything that was taught us in school. After all, all that information came from
learned professionals, but as it turns out, you shouldn't really believe everything your teacher's taught
you. Much like the internet, the school curriculum is full of lies.
Number one is a literal bone cracker of a lie so stay tuned for that. Here are 20 lies we learned in school.

20. Christopher Columbus Discovered America
Ask any first grader who discovered America, and they'll say one name; Christopher Columbus. I have
even referenced it in a few videos myself. But as it turns out, that is a completely false fact.
Good old Chris didn't even set foot on American soil. He made it as far as the Caribbean, but that's
about it. And by the way, he actually wasn't the good guy we all though he was. He brutalized,
terrorized, and enslaved the people living in the Caribbean pretty much as soon as he landed there.

19. We Definitely Use More Than 10% of Our Brains
A persistent myth presumes that 90% of the brain lies dormant in humans, waiting for evolution to catch
up, and leaves kids imagining what kind of telepathic super beings they could be if only they could
harness the rest. Why? Because it has been a regular discussion in science class.
In reality, humans use all of their brains, there is no scientific evidence to suggest otherwise, and the
10% myth probably comes from a misquote attributed to Albert Einstein.

18. Ben Franklin and His Kite
Mention Benjamin Franklin and one immediately conjures up an image of the guy flying a kite with a key
attached to it during a thunderstorm, as it should be because he was after all best known for using the
said things to discover electricity, right?
Wrong! That event, no matter how iconic it was, almost certainly never happened. The popular legend
probably comes from a key-on-kite-in-thunderstorm scenario Franklin wrote for a popular publication.
While he wrote about it, he didn't actually get into doing it.

17. The Food Pyramid of Death
Follow the food pyramid and lead a healthy life. That's what we all were crammed into our brains. I still
vaguely remember posters of this plastered on the walls of grade school, and even high school
classrooms. But instead of being a guide for being healthy, following this outdated guideline was actually
proven to decrease a person's lifespan rather than increasing it.

The classic food pyramid has contributed to epidemic levels of obesity, diabetes, and heart disease. The
U.S. Department of Agriculture sets nutritional guidelines for schools and the military, but also
represents the agriculture industry - and has a vested interest in promoting diets based on things such
as corn and meat, which have proven unhealthy in large quantities.

16. The Taste Map

So, remember this tongue diagram I'am sure that we all saw it in like science or something or biology
where that maps different tastes of parts of your tongue. So, this diagram points that salty and the
sweet in the front of your tongue, the sour on the sides and the bitter on the back. However, scientists
long proved that these theories are actually incorrect.
Each taste bud is actually capable of detecting all flavors whether it's sweet, sour, bitterness or salty.
However, this myth is still seen in a lot of text books today and I'm not sure why.
15. Pyramids Were Built Through Slave Labor
So, it's a common belief that the great Egyptian pyramids were built by slaves. But a recent discovery
actually found that this was not true. Apparently inside the pyramids there were tombs built for people
that were working on them.
They were respected for their work so much that those who died during construction were bestowed
with the sacred honor of being buried in the tomb next to their pharaoh. And if they were slaves they
would not have received such an honorable burial.
