Tesla will not be left behind as electric trucks such as the Hummer EV and Rivian R1T entice consumers with remarkable properties. Elon Musk has disclosed that Tesla is adding rear-wheel steering to the Cybertruck to enable the electric vehicle to navigate with "great agility." In other words, it's an approximate equivalent of the Hummer's "Crab Mode" and the R1tank T's turns. You may not have much difficulty with a tight U-turn or a difficult off-road situation.
Musk said on Twitter in reply to a statement by the Tesla Owners Online group that Fridays are usually Tesla studio design time for him. He also said that the final design of the Cybertruck will be "nearly precisely" the same as the one shown in November 2019. This came as no surprise given that Musk has only indicated modest modifications to the car in the past, like as a minor size diminution.
Surprisingly, Musk did specify one of the additional characteristics that the Cybertruck's ultimate version will have. According to the CEO, the car would feature rear-wheel steering capabilities, allowing the Cybertruck to make tight bends and navigate through difficult terrain with ease. Such a feature would be very helpful, particularly for people who like taking their pickups on excursions. Musk also stated “lots of other wonderful things” that are on the way, but it was unclear if this was only for the Cybertruck.
Because the Cybertruck is a big truck, it must be as nimble as feasible. The Cybertruck's four wheel steering, in conjunction with its dynamic air suspension function, may aid the vehicle in competitions such as Baja, which Elon Musk has previously hinted at. The Baja 500 and Baja 1000 are severe, lethal stamina races through the desert, so the Cybertruck would have to be highly agile and competent simply to complete the event in one piece. Glickenhaus, whose hydrogen-powered Boot has indeed completed the 1000-mile competition, has already issued a Baja challenge to the Tesla Cybertruck.
The next generation of Tesla's Cybertruck, presumably the commercial model, should be clearly distinguishable from the concept. There are still some unanswered questions regarding its size (ummm, garage-compatible?) and some of the upcoming design changes. However, one production-ready feature, hinted in a recent Tesla patent filing, seems to stand out.
