Boris Johnson has promised to take "appropriate action" against France in retaliation for threats made over the recent post-Brexit fishing rights row.

The dispute escalated on Friday after the skipper of the seized Scottish scallop trawler was charged by French authorities.

It comes amid a war of words between the UK and France following Brexit, with the EU nation threatening to block British boats from some of its ports in response to dozens of French fishing boats having licence bids to fish around Jersey rejected.
