'Harold & Kumar' star Kal Penn might not actually smoke weed — but he thinks ‘it should be legal as hell.’

In US news and current events today, Kal Penn, the actor, who played Kumar in the ‘Harold and Kumar’ franchise, doesn’t actually use cannabis and apparently fans of the films have no problem offering up some bud.

‘I don’t even get the question, ‘Do you smoke weed.’ I get just, straight up, offered bags of marijuana on a daily basis. Like, on the subway, I’m a New Yorker, on the subway, walking to dinner, coming out of, like, work drinks, so—and I’ve learned that you never wanna decline full out. You never wanna be like, ‘Sorry, I don’t smoke,’ ‘cause I—I don’t really smoke, because it’s just phenomenally disappointing to the other person. So, no. I don’t think it was a politician answer. I think it was a not wanting to disappoint your fans answer, but also wanting to answer it honestly, which is, like, I, like I have no problem with it. I think it should be legal as hell everywhere all the time, and we need to stop locking up particularly communities of color for nonviolent offenses around it. But no, I think, I don’t know the context of that article, but I would imagine it was less political and more not wanting to piss off the die-hard fan. ‘Cause their faces will fall. I made this mistake before. They’re like, ‘Hey, will you toke real quick with me?’ I’m ju—and I’ll say, ‘Sorry. I don’t really smoke.’ And the look of horror and disappointment of like, ‘What? Turns out, the actor, who frantically searched for a White Castle burger in the cult classics, is also a vegetarian. According to Business Insider, Penn said the person in charge of props for the movie ‘went out of her way to make little mini veggie burgers for me.’ Now that White Castle is making a plant-based ‘Impossible Slider,’ Penn can actually eat the chain’s burgers. But if you see him on the street and offer to smoke him up, don’t get your feelings hurt if he declines the offer
