atteries are the core foundation of most electrically powered vehicles. However, these batteries, although powerful, consume more power over several miles and take a considerably large amount of electricity to power up. This is why Tesla is looking forward to producing batteries that would last longer on more miles and take less electricity to power up. Tesla’s lithium-ion batteries are made of components that have not only good power storage capabilities but also a longer life span and higher durability.

One big question that crosses our minds when we hear lots of batteries is why? Tesla’s CEO, Elon Musk, has made promises to the public several times concerning building batteries that will reduce and improve the cost per kilowatt-hour and yet run a million miles per full charge for his electric vehicles. This vision will also include a way to reduce the general cost of Tesla’s EV models in a way that’ll make them very affordable even to middle-class people and yet highly efficient. However, Tesla’s vehicles use batteries in the form of battery packs.
In 2020, Tesla produced half a million electric vehicles, which was about a 36% increase in the electric cars it had in 2019. One of the primary key components that made this possible was the manufacture of these battery packs, with each battery pack makeup of about 4000 battery cells.
Considering the number of vehicles Tesla produces in a year, you should have a good hint by now why so many batteries.

How then does Tesla manage such a large number of batteries? Well, you might have already figured it out! Tesla’s brilliant partnership with Panasonic, which will last till at least 2023, is one of the significant decisions that will greatly impact the type and quality of batteries that Tesla produces. The Japanese-based electronics firm is one of the world’s widely recognized companies known to be very familiar in lithium-ion battery production and a leader in the production of batteries for over 40 years. Panasonic is also a multinational electronics company. Over the years, Panasonic has been the major source of Tesla’s lithium-ion batteries. Although the full details of the new contract are still unknown as Panasonic continues to conceal its plans with Tesla, one thing we do know is that Tesla successfully won its strategic battle to bring the production of its batteries to its automation-dominated Gigafactory in Berlin.

Tesla’s Gigafactory Berlin is a new massive factory, which is being built with precise requirements to suit their vast production of batteries and vehicles. It will be one of the main reasons battery production in Tesla will skyrocket soon enough.

Elon Musk once said, “We consider the factory to be a product. The factory itself is the machine that builds the machine.” This explains how the uncompleted factory can still take on huge amounts of automation and production of batteries and vehicle parts.

These massive acres of success are where all sorts of automation processes that go into lithium-ion battery and vehicle production take place. With this initiative in place, Tesla will efficiently manage the cost of transportation of production parts from its new business partner and shipping delays, but more importantly, speed up the rate of production of batteries with intelligent automation to increase the number of batteries produced per day.

What is soon to be the biggest footprint in the world, Tesla’s Giga Nevada once completed, as of now has more than 7000 employees besides its massive automation capabilities, with Panasonic currently occupying more than half of this population. Without a doubt, this has an impulsive impact on the higher rate of production of Lithium-ion battery packs following the pressure to increase output.
