In this pastel pencils lesson, I show you how to draw a kingfisher on a toned ground.

** Materials List **

Pencils: I pick 10 colours from a set of 36 Faber Castell Pitt pastel pencils. You can use any brand of pencils to follow along.

Paper: I use Canson Mi Teintes paper in a grey tone from Canson's grey tones pad. You can also purchase these as loose sheets. However, any brand of mid-tone pastel paper will do (grey shows off the colours best but a mid-brown or green would work). Ingres pastel papers tend to be the most affordable and sanded papers, like Pastelmat by Clairefontaine, tend to be the most expensive. As long as it's a pastel paper (rather than a drawing paper), neither the brand nor price will make or break your success with this lesson.

Other: A craft knife and sanding block (or piece of sand paper) for sharpening and a kneaded eraser
