The University of Utah is meeting the challenges of COVID-19 head-on. Since the beginning of the fall semester, we have seen case numbers stay flat. Community members are working together to protect each other by getting vaccinated, with more than 80% of students, faculty and staff vaccinated.

This level of protection means we can hold classes and events in person. However, it doesn't mean that the virus is totally eradicated. So we have protocols in place in case of a classroom exposure. When a student reports that they have been exposed or tested positive for COVID-19, instructors should call the general campus COVID hotline to report a classroom exposure. The contact tracing team will advise and provide further information.

In cases of classroom exposure, the contact tracing team will contact the instructor, the students, and the department chair or dean. The contact tracing team will inform them of next steps, depending on vaccination status.

Unvaccinated? The student will be asked to quarantine for 10 days from the date of exposure
and mask for 14 days total. Vaccinated? Students will be asked to wear a mask for 14 days after exposure.

All students will be asked to get tested between three and five days after exposure.

Vaccinated students who choose not to mask in the 14 days following exposure will be required to participate in class remotely with educational resources provided by their instructor.

If an instructor has been exposed outside the classroom, they should fill out the self-report form on coronavirus.utah.edu. As with any other illness, instructors need to prepare to have their classes covered if they get sick.

We are working through this pandemic together. Together, we can keep our campus safe. We are all one U.
