A visit to Tesco isn’t just about the very reasonably-priced fruit and veg these days. That’s because the British supermarket colossus has built a rather impressive electric car charging network with Pod Point. Around 500 stores in the UK now have electric chargers installed with the units ranging from 7kW slow chargers to 50kW rapid chargers.

If you’re new to electric, you may have noticed them and wondered how they work? Well, wonder no more because Tom is here to explain everything.

If you want to charge at Tesco, first, you have to find a Tesco. Which actually isn’t that difficult. If you want to find one with charging, that shouldn’t be too difficult either, because roughly 500 Tesco Extra and Superstores should be EV friendly.

The charging stations themselves are run by Pod Point and were funded in part by Volkswagen. Thankfully, you don’t need to have a Volkswagen to use one - they’re open and available to anyone with an electric car.
