The design theme for the Yaris Cross was "Easy, Fast, Smart" with the aim of creating a car that is an ideal partner for everyday activities. The team at Toyota European Design and Development (ED2), Toyota's European design center in the south of France, has reimagined the urban SUV and developed a more robust and minimalist design that sets the Yaris Cross apart from its competitors.

Its powerful design expresses the robustness and agility that European customers prefer, in a compact body that offers easy maneuverability suitable for urban life. At the same time, the design allows for an interior with plenty of comfort and ample cargo space, following the proven Yaris โ€œbig-smallโ€ approach.

The lower body, with a high horizontal axis running from the nose to the taillights, enhances the feeling of an elevated, powerful SUV stance. Larger diameter wheels and tires - up to 18-inch rims - not only add visual appeal, but also help the vehicle to be used in a variety of driving conditions. The compacted appearance is enhanced by the pronounced tire overhang of the rear fenders.

The front end shows a strong and robust urban design, with the upper and lower grille forming two superimposed trapezoids - a typical design feature of Toyota SUVs. The sleek, diamond-shaped headlights feature LED projector lamps (on the higher tiers), with separate vertical daytime running lights and circular LED fog lights on the lower corners of the lower grille. The rear is defined by the wide tailgate and a square center section that expresses the vehicle's functionality and is framed by the wide rear fenders and the C-shaped character lines in the lower corners. From the Mid+ class, all rear lights use LED technology and offer sequential turn signals.

The interior design of the Yaris Cross continues the hatchback's modern and high-quality appearance while focusing on the theme of "quick access" that emphasizes the convenience of everyday life.

Elements such as the front pillars, rocker panels and center console were redesigned, and the door panels and armrests received new finishes. The center console is gaining prominence, reflecting the vehicle's SUV status. It forms a strong vertical element that runs down from the multimedia display to the gearshift and contains the controls for heating and ventilation. The controls for the driving functions, including the driving mode selector and (where specified) four-wheel drive switches, are located directly in front of the shifter.

The optimized, higher driving position offers the driver the good visibility expected from an SUV. The seat and steering wheel are designed to provide both comfort and a strong sense of connection and control of the vehicle.

The Yaris Cross is powered by Toyota's fourth-generation hybrid electric technology, a system debuting on the new Yaris hatchback. At its heart is a 1.5-litre Hybrid Dynamic Force engine with three cylinders, the design and function of which corresponds to the larger two-litre unit from the Toyota Corolla and the C-HR. The long stroke, high-velocity combustion, high 14:1 compression ratio, and temperature and pressure control help the Atkinson engine achieve a high thermal efficiency of 40%, allowing more energy from every drop of fuel to power the vehicle is used.

The Hybrid Dynamic Force engine is quieter under acceleration and its maximum power and torque are achieved at lower revs - 92 DIN hp/68 kW at 5,500 rpm and 120 Nm between 3,600 and 4,800 rpm.

The maximum output of the entire system (engine and electric motors) is 116 DIN-PS/85 kW. Fuel consumption and CO2 emissions (WLTP combined) are 4.4-5.0 l/100 km and 100-114 g/km (best in class: 4.7-5.1 l/100 km and 106-116 g /km with AWD-i).
