With the ever escalating costs of new motor vehicles, the concept of continuing production of a previous generation as a budget version has become stronger and stronger.

A great example of this has been the reincarnation of previous generation versions of the Toyota Corolla rebadged as Corolla Quest. Earlier in 2020, the outgoing 11th generation Corolla received substantial updates during its changeover to Quest status.

The Quest has now been expanded into a separate model line now with 3 distinct trim levels all powered by the same 1.8L naturally aspirated petrol engine and a choice of manual or CVT automatic transmissions. The test car was the range topping Exclusive CVT version.

Staring with the engine, the engine provides 103kW and 173Nm driving through the front wheels. The CVT gearbox is perfectly matched to the engine and provides seamless, smooth driving whether in urban use or cruising along on a freeway. In fact, the overall experience is one of exceptional smoothness in respect of the ride and even cornering ability. I found the Quest to be a very relaxed vehicle in all conditions.

Another aspect is the excellent space provided, front and rear as well as a large boot measuring approx 450L. Exclusive specification provides many comforts including 6 airbags, leather trim, touchscreen infotainment with screen mirror function, reverse camera and many more.

Fuel consumption for the test period of driving in mixed conditions was a very acceptable 6.7L/100km.

At the heart of the Corolla Quest is the value for money proposition that is offered. Starting from R260 000 to R327 300 for the top version as tested, this is amazing value in today's world. A service plan covering 3 services OR 45 000km is included.
