Ayurvedic medicine is practiced throughout the Indian subcontinent, including the Himalayas in Nepal. It is one of the world's most ancient medicinal practices, and it can powerfully be integrated with our conventional western medicine. This is how I treat my patients, even when they are under anesthesia and having surgery.

In this video, I travel to the Himalayas in Nepal to share with you some of Ayurvedic medicine’s most powerful herbs and plants. I'll discuss turmeric, holy basil, cardamom, stinging nettle, and so much more. I will also show the beautiful scenery of the Himalayas and the gorgeous landscapes that also play a powerful role in Ayurvedic healing.

As an anesthesiologist, many of these herbs are powerful before surgery so patients can relieve their anxiety and prepare their bodies for surgery. Since surgery is such an unnatural state, causing a strong inflammatory response, anything we can safely offer patients to reduce the inflammatory load can be powerful. However, you should always speak with your doctor before starting any herbs or supplements! This is particularly true before surgery, where many of these herbs may increase bleeding risk under anesthesia.
