Renzo Piano's glass structure the Shard opens to the public on 1 February. Architecture critic Oliver Wainwright visits its 72nd floor open viewing platform -- 244 metres above ground -- to see the 40-mile view from Western Europe's tallest building. He also speaks to architect William Matthews about the glass building, which costs £25 per adult ticket to visit, and visits the Shard's gents toilet
