Safe, roomy and ready for any kind of weather, the Subaru Legacy is a sensible choice in a midsize family sedan. Equipped with standard all-wheel drive, the Legacy supplies sure-footed traction in rain or snow and added confidence on gravel and dirt roads. A smooth ride and comfortable seats improve the daily commute, while an available turbocharged engine puts a little pep into the Legacy's step. The standard engine supplies an adequate 182 horsepower, but the turbo provides 260 horses and plenty of torque. Subaru last redesigned the Legacy in 2020 and gave the car a refresh in 2023. As a result, we don't expect significant changes for the 2025 model year.

Rivals in the midsize sedan segment are formidable, and the Legacy isn't the only AWD game in town. You can also get that feature in the Hyundai Sonata, Kia K5, Nissan Altima and Toyota Camry. The Subaru lacks a hybrid powertrain, too, which is available in the Honda Accord and Toyota. Where the Subaru distinguishes itself is with its 260-hp turbocharged engine, only the Hyundai and Kia offer a similarly impressive power upgrade.
