Fifty years ago, Sen. Robert Kennedy was shot at the Ambassador Hotel as he walked to an event on presidential primary election night. On June 5, 1968, Kennedy took a shortcut through the hotel’s kitchen and headed toward the ballroom for an election night event. He never made it to the stage. Kennedy was shot by Sirhan Sirhan, who was waiting for the senator. Kennedy died the next day. KCRA 3 was live at the event that night and captured the chaos and shock of the news. Watch how it unfolded in the video above.
