After the Stalingrad disaster, Stalin ordered his victorious forces forward to destroy the invaders. In desperation, Hitler turned to von Manstein to restore the front. When left to his own devices, FM Erich von Manstein surrounded, battered and generally destroyed Soviet fronts' advances and threw them back. It makes you wonder what would've happened if Hitler had always allowed him to control the Eastern Front.
