Here is a way to initially adjust your automatic-adjusting electric brakes without the trailer being hooked to the truck. The brakes will then be road-ready when you do hook to the trailer. This method also validates that the automatic mechanism is working correctly and so will automatically adjust your brakes as you drive. Otherwise the standard method is to tow the trailer and brake multiple times and 'hope' that the automatic adjusters are working correctly.
