We took a water taxi from Millers Landing at Lowell Point close to Seward, Alaska to hike Caines Head.

Caines Head is the site of Fort McGilvray, a WWII site established in 1942 and used to protect the port from the Japanese.

We hiked almost 5 miles from North Beach to the fort which is at an elevation of 753 feet. There are so many buildings still standing and some items that were left behind. The landscape was stunning. The trail was wide and easy to follow.

There are outdoor non flush bathrooms on Caines Head.

We stayed at Bear Lake Lodgings. It was an awesome stay and the hosts Pat and Dennis Perry were super nice and very informative. The B & B is cozy, comfortable and close to town. Check out the website https://bearlakelodgings.com and book direct as it keep the rates lower.

We also stopped by Bear Creek Fish Weir. Check out the video.    • Bear Lake Fish Weir  "Our Fishy Story"   .

There is so much to see in Seward. Don’t miss the opportunity to visit.
