Destiny is a concept at the very heart of the Witcher saga. Yet, Netflix’s adaptation does not seem to realize that destiny is not enough to make for a compelling story, let alone a good adaptation. Something more is needed. Much more.

This is the first part of a five part series focused on understanding Netflix’s adaptation of Andrzej Sapkowski’s fantasy saga. Throughout, we will look at why certain decisions were made by the production team, why it may not have connected with audiences and make sense of the behind the scenes drama that has led many fans to grow increasingly frustrated at the direction the show is being taken in.
