As many states took action in the last year to limit the teaching of diverse history, Illinois took a bold step to become the first state to ensure that students in every public elementary and high school learn about the contributions of Asian Americans to the country's economic, cultural, social, and political development. This program features a conversation celebrating the TEEACH Act or Teaching Equitable Asian American Community History and why it’s essential to full understanding of Illinois history.

ALPLM Executive Director Christina Shutt discusses the act with Illinois Rep. Jennifer Gong-Gershowitz, Chris Aldana of Asian Americans Advancing Justice - Chicago, and Bloomington High School history teacher Noah Tang.

Recorded May 5, 2022, in the Stevenson Room of the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum.
