For years many complained that the X-Men films were too centred on Wolverine. With the arrival of X-Men: First Class in 2011 (which was essentially a story about Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr), the films took a turn, and began to centre the entire series around Professor X and Magneto. Which made far more sense. X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014) allowed for the young and old Magnetos and Professor Xs to share the screen. And at long last, it was time for Charles Xavier to get his own theme.

John Ottman composed a mesmerising, emotional theme for Charles, called ‘Hope’, which has been a motif for Charles, starting all the way back at the beginning with X-Men (2000). Ottman composer the iconic theme for X2 (2003), and fans were thrilled when he returned for Days of Future Past almost 15 years later. He introduced many more themes with this film, all while. bringing back his X-Men theme, but the most dominant in the film is without a doubt Xavier’s theme.

The theme reappears in X-Men: Apocalypse (2016) (also composed by John Ottman), and I think I heard a snippet of it in Dark Phoenix (2019) (during the train scene) composed by Hans Zimmer. (Correct me if I’m wrong!)
