Foiling instead of painting is a real alternative in car design. Of course, only if it is done by real professionals. Alexander Otto and Andreas Schopf have mastered their craft and transformed a plain Dodge Viper into a colourful eye-catcher in American design in Stuttgart Plieningen.

When filming cars, also called "car wrapping", it is important to pull the film over the surfaces of the car with the right tension and a lot of visual judgement. Heat helps here, because the film can then be stretched better and also retracts into its original shape.

Alexander Otto and Andreas Schopf make use of this memory effect especially in difficult places, such as recesses and steep curves on the car body. The film is then pressed on with a squeegee without bubbles and adhered. The excess is scored with a cutter knife and then torn off at the predetermined breaking point. This keeps the paint in tact.

Another clever method is to apply a "knifeless tape" under the film and then cut it with the thread hidden in the tape. With a lot of patience and skill, this craftsmanship gradually creates a car with a completely new look.
