I remember the first Ghibli ad on TV nearly a decade ago and it shook the market. Now ten years later, it is being discontinued. Maserati has confirmed the both the Ghibli and their Ferrari soured V8 will depart in favor of an electrified future. To celebrate the V8’s legacy, let’s take a look at this wild beast of a sedan.

Italian for trophy, the Trofeo is the trophy model of the Ghibli lineup. As such, it gains a launch control system, a Corsa driving mode, 21in wheels, a rear LSD, and custom Trofeo badging. The stand out feature? Well, it’s simply that engine with heaps of torque low down at 2,250RPM, a raucous yet subdued sound, and the ease of letting the rear end loose. It may not be as sophisticated, or as fast a German rivals, but its emotional and old school nature make it a treat to hoon around, especially with massive carbon fiber shift paddles.

Sure there are flaws…many in fact… but the truth to the story is nothing like this will ever be made again and I hope this emotion can be transferred over to future Maserati products. Long Live the V8, and Long Live Maserati. 🔱
