The September/2023 meetup featured two Open edX platforms: Cap-Net & Thai MOOCs.

Cap-Net was initially scheduled to present in July. However, due to technical challenges, the presentation was rescheduled to this event. The platform launched in 2002 as the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) global network for capacity development in sustainable water management. Cap-Net develops knowledge products and delivers capacity development through an operational structure formed by its 23 affiliated networks, reaching over 1,000 members in 120 countries institutions, and by collaborating with over 40 international partners.
In 2014 Cap-Net launched its first virtual campus and started to gain knowledge and visibility for its active role in online water education. This first campus presented limitations for growth and quality of courses, and in 2020 Cap-Net revamped its campus, now based on the Open edX platform.

Since then, results have exponentially increased in terms of number of courses, partners, topic coverage, and language. Through its virtual campus, Cap-Net offers high quality training to thousands of participants from the Global South, who respond with commitment and high completion rates. Eight to ten months after each course, participants are invited to respond to a survey intended to measure how the acquired knowledge is being used, shared, and its impact on sustainability. Cap-Net continues to pave its path towards achieving ‘Water knowledge for All’, as a global hub for online water learning.

Thai MOOCs, a national digital learning platform launched by Thailand Cyber University (TCU), Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, aimed to empower sustainable lifelong learning in Thailand since 2017. Students, educators, lifelong learners, and the general public can continuously improve their knowledge, skills, and abilities throughout their lives at no cost, resulting in highly elevating Thai education and expanding learning opportunities for Thai people. As of 25 October 2022, the Thai MOOC platform has a total enrollment of 1,534,890 members, of which more than 1,470,987 certificates have been issued. Besides, there are more than 530 courses on Thai MOOC, co-created by over a hundred official partners joining Thai MOOC from the public and private sectors within the country and internationally. The partnership enables course development and sharing on the Thai MOOC platform, resulting in more useful course creations and proper educational resource sharing.

This is a significant milestone demonstrating the steady growth in impelling open learning. Thai MOOC, the national lifelong learning platform, supports an unlimited number of learners and promotes boundless learning, which can be accessed anywhere, anytime, with no charges.
