#Lexus #NX #Hybrid

---

So what we have here is a 2.5L 4 cylinder engine - that makes 203hp and 184lbft
But then you also have a typical hybrid drive system that brings electric only power OR an electric supplement which boosts reported power to 302 hp and a torque figure that you need to be an engineer to decipher
So sure it’s a hybrid, but this is the same powertrain as the Rav4 Prime we tested earlier this year and that’s the fastest Toyota they make….so what’s it like with the 4,444lb NX body?
0-60 is done in 5.5 seconds accordion to Lexus, but it certainly feels quicker than that.
We said this is a hybrid so fuel economy is important and this being a plug-in something like mpg is also difficult to estimate because it really depends on how much battery you have, etc.
The NX350h, the non-plug in achieves 39 mpg in mixed conditions so you can expect AT LEAST that in the 450h+
But again, the appeal of this car is the plug-in. We said, during our time with the Rav4 Prime that PHEV is the perfect solution to range anxiety
The Nx450h+ delivers 37 mile of full EV range which should be more than enough to get you to work in the morning
But we also said that it’s heavy - 4,444 lbs, andd that’s due largely to the battery
So does that ruin the dynamics?
No, its still very Lexus feeling. The suspension is tuned more for comfort than performance, but this is a hybrid compact SUV...so like were you expecting it to drive like a Ferrari?
Everything is smooth, but responsive. The power delivery is seamless, the CVT fakes shifts but feels good, the AWD system keeps traction no problem, the ride is smooth, and the cabin is quiet
But like I said earlier this is all new for 2022 so let’s step outside and take a look
At a quick glance the new NX wouldn’t seem too different than the old one, but we just did an Instagram post about the textures of Lexus. The idea of that was that, especially for luxury cars it’s all about the little details.
The blue paint is dynamic
The black Spindle grille has never looked better in this Fsport trim
The entire front end is sharp and aggressive
The wheels fill out impeccably
And then the big differences come in the back
The overlapping taillights dominate the aesthetic
And this is the first Lexus to ditch the L logo on the back for the spelled outLexus
Comprehensively, it’s a simple, elegant, and aggressive design that doesnt miss
Let’s step inside - fumble with door handle - oh and the door handles are just glamorized buttons
The handles in here are the same idea, they’re buttons that will trigger an electric latch release, bt dont worry there’s a physical fail safe
In here the design is anothe big change from the outgoing. They’ve completely moved away fromthe touchpad infotainment thank god, but not everything is perfect
This is the first Lexus to get this new gen infotainment system so there will be some small annoyances that they will fix with over the air updates
The annoyances are things like slightly laggy response in some menus and the baking in of climate into the screen.
The safety suite is also the best its ever been and isn’t quite on par with Hyundai or Tesla but its getting there
Thn in terms of features, let’s be honest you’re just going to use ACP 90%of the time and that works perfectly and has a shortcut button
Digitl cluster is overwhelming to look at at first, but is perfect once you know where everything is
The sterling wheel is new and looks and feels great and offers almost too mch customizability
Wireless charger, and a bunch of storage.
But AGAIN this is a Lexus so comfort is key. This is incredibly lux from the wonderful seats, the quality of the textures you interact with, and from the sense of space you feel from everywhere i the cabin.
Overall, it’s been fantastic to live with on all fronts and definitely something you should consider if you’re looking for a new car
So ,the 2022 Lexus NX450h+ is brand new, but more than that it marks a big transition for Lexus.
It’s the first plug in for them
It’s the first with the new infotainment
It’s the first to go with the script rear branding
What it comes together as is, in this journalists opinion, the perfect solution for the daily driver.
It’s fabulous to look at
It’s shockingly efficient without carrying range anxiety
It’s legitimately quick and fun
It’s Lexus comfortable
It’s shockingly spacious and practical
Finally the modern tech is there
And at just over $56,500 to start it’s the most expensive NX, but it’s not outrageously expensive for everything it delivers
