Finding the Best Spine Surgeon for Cervical Herniated Disc Surgery

 Published On Feb 13, 2015

If you need cervical herniated disc surgery, you want to find the best spine surgeon to do it. Where do you look? How do you know who is among the most experienced and has the best results from doing surgery for a herniated disc in the neck? Watch this video for tips.

In the video, Dr. Seth Neubardt, one of the best spine surgeons in New York, explains that there are three ways to find a surgeon. The first is Word of Mouth.

If you know someone who had cervical herniated disc surgery, ask them how they did. If he or she didn’t have good results, you do not want to go to that surgeon. But if the surgery went well and results were good, that is a surgeon you want to learn more about.

The second way to find the best spine surgeon for your procedure is to ask your primary care physician who he or she would see if needing surgery to treat a slipped disc in the neck.

The third way to pick a surgeon is through the Web, which provides patients a tremendous amount of real information. Look for an experienced doctor who specializes in spinal surgery and cervical herniated disc treatments, and then see what patients say about the doctor you select.

“If a doctor is not good, and a doctor is not treating people properly, it’s going to show up,” he says. “It’s going to show up in the comments that patients are making.”

Dr. Neubardt recommends you look at Vitals.com and Healthgrades.com, sites that provide information and reviews about physicians. Don’t be as concerned about the stars, he says, as the comments patients share. Read the comments and see if you believe they are real patients saying real things. You will know just by reading the comments.

“If you get a feel that this doctor is compassionate and caring and talented, then that’s a doctor you want to see,” says Dr. Neubardt.

The best spine surgeons will understand the anxieties and concerns you have and the pain you feel. They will care about the post-operative needs you may have, and be available to you. If you have a problem such as an infection or pain issue and call your surgeon’s office at 2am, someone should answer the call.
