Drilling a hole through a strawbale wall can't be done with a normal drill bit. We had to create our own hole saw to drill a hole all the way through an 18" thick straw bale wall to get the water supply and hot water plumbing from the inside of the straw bale house to the exterior mounted on-demand water heater. Protecting the water pipes from contacting the straw bale wall is very important to prevent condensation and water leaks from getting to the straw and creating mold and rotten bales.
