See you in Manchester! Commonwealth leaders extend an invitation to the world.

The XVIIth Commonwealth Games were held in Manchester from 25th July - 4th August 2002. They were the most significant multi-sport event to be held in this country since the 1948 Olympics, and the largest in the history of the Commonwealth Games, with 72 countries taking part. At a reception in Heaton Park, leaders of some of these countries put out an informal appeal to the world, inviting viewers to join them in Manchester, expressed in their own languages. After this, they are joined by Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex, the president of the Commonwealth Games Federation.
