VIDEO OVERVIEW:
As discussed in part 1 of the editing series, editing is a crucial, important step on the journey of any self-published author. In part 1, I discussed different types of editing you may need when entering this stage in your self-publishing journey.

In this video, I will give you my recommendations for entering your editorial phase now that you know what types exist (and which one(s) you may or may not need), AND stick around until the end because I’m also giving you my SECRET WEAPON for independent authors who want to save time and money along their journey to becoming an author.

Finding an editor is a major step in your self publishing journey, and it can be a tedious and time consuming process. You may need several forms of editing done, and this depends on the type and genre of book you’re writing, as well as your writing skill and ability.

I suggest you begin with finding a developmental editor, to ensure your book is 100% complete in terms of content before you move on to finding a copy editor, which will get the manuscript cleaned up nicely in terms of spelling and grammar. (Remember I have a whole video about TYPES of editing, that you can check out if you aren’t sure where to begin!)

There is no hard and fast rule about WHERE you SHOULD be getting your first (or second, third) editor from, but there are a few places you can begin your search, depending on your comfort level, needs in terms of experience and type of editing, and existing connections you may have with freelancers in the editing field.

4 WAYS TO FIND AN EDITOR:
1. Referrals - your in-person and social media network
2. Online directories - fiverr, upwork, freelancer, etc.
3. Industry organizations - like Editors Canada, PWAC, etc
4. TOP SECRET WEAPON - watch the video to find out what it is 😎
