Ford's first Lightning strike was back in the 1990s. That's when the brand's F-150 SVT Lightning debuted, motivated by a 5.8-liter V8 with an impressive (for that era) 240 horsepower. The second generation came out in 1999 but the F-150 variant was ultimately discontinued in 2004. After a long hiatus, Ford dusted off the moniker and put it back in the spotlight in 2022. This time, the resurrected F-150 Lightning was clean, green, and emission-free — the brand's first all-electric pickup. And if you think an electric powertrain isn't practical enough to motivate a truck, guess again. When it debuted, the F-150 Lightning traveled more than 300 miles on a full charge. Plus, it pulled up to 10,000 pounds, though towing heavy loads could seriously dent its driving range. In addition, this Ford offers amenities you won't find in a gas-powered truck. For example, its onboard generator can power your home during an outage.
