Craig Beals shows how to make an edible water bottle from sodium alginate and calcium lactate! Scientists are exploring several options for water bottles that are more environmentally friendly and one of the most interesting options is an edible water bottle made from readily available organic compounds. This mixture makes a polymer layer of sodium alginate around water when soaked in calcium lactate. The result is a bag or ball or bottle, whatever you want to call it, that holds water. While the science is not yet perfected on this edible water bottle, this is an interesting first step!
