You would be forgiven for not immediately knowing what this car is. It's the Formentor – a car built by Cupra which is SEAT's performance brand, and this is the first car from Cupra that's not also available as a SEAT.

It's available in a variety of petrol flavours but at Electrifying we're only interested in the plug-in hybrid model.

It's powered by a 148bhp 1.4-litre turbo petrol along with a 114bhp electric motor, giving a total output of 241bhp (badged 245). There's a 13kWh battery giving an electric range of, in theory, 30-plus miles. It's essentially the same hardware as you find in the Volkswagen Golf GTE and Skoda Octavia vRS iV.

So, is this SUV-cum-estate from a brand you've never heard of our cup of tea? Tom Ford finds out.
