Movie magic comes in a lot of forms. Sometimes it’s CGI dragons and superheroes flying through the air. Other times it’s a plot twist you never saw coming. And sometimes it’s just a filming location that seems super bizarre! Today we’re taking a look at a few of the latter, as we explore some classic movie scenes that were shot at surprising locations. We have a couple that are, frankly, surprising because they WEREN’T shot on a green screen with CGI. Especially because they are from movies where there was a LOT of that going on. Other times it’s surprising because it seems totally counterintuitive. Like filming a desolate scene that is supposed to be in southern Texas… but doing it in LA County, just outside the lush and glamorous hills of Hollywood. Or going all the way across the country because you found a set of stairs you really liked. And sometimes going for realism can feel a little overkill, like when a certain movie decided to set up cameras inside an actual nuclear bunker instead of just building one on set. Certainly, these decisions all made sense to the moviemakers, and they all resulted in great scenes. So we’re definitely not judging that part of it. But it’s sometimes fun to learn about surprising filming locations that seem to go against what you’d assume about a particular movie. So for a glimpse into a handful of movies that filmed scenes in some surprising locales, check out this video today!
