First mined in the 1200s, pink salt, commonly called Himalayan salt, is actually mined deep in Pakistan’s Khewra mountain range, roughly 200 miles from the closest point in the Himalayan mountain range. Accounting for roughly 800 million pounds of the mineral each year, the salt from this mine is used in everything from table salts to decorative lamps, and in spas across the world.
