I received the new FSD beta version 12.3 over the weekend for my Tesla Model Y LR.

Full Self Drive is still in beta testing meaning it is not perfect or finished. The system requires a driver to be attentive at all times. From those who have posted videos before me I have the advantage of knowing where this version still needs work. One area in particular is being able to measure distance from curbs when making turns. So in this video documentation, I will shut off FSD beta to prevent hitting the curbs on turns and causing damage to the car. There are other times when it needs a human driver to intervene when it fails to execute as expected. Yet, after 5 years this level of artificial intelligence for automated driving has come quite a ways toward perfection. Already it can handle traffic and avoid accidents far better than most drivers. One reason is that it can see 360° and observe hazards better than a human driver.

I selected these test routes specifically to test known failures in FSD performance. This version is by far better than the previous version where I would have dozens of aborts to avoid collision. In this new release there are very few required interventions or disengagements.

Like having cruise control years ago to help with the stress and fatigue, FSD is not just a lane keeping system and cruise control as with other automakers attempt to achieve, but it can actually drive you from your driveway to your destination and park, no matter where you wish to go, to the store, hundreds of miles on a road trip, or cross country and do it safely.

As this was my first test drive, I chose to be cautious for the unexpected and kept my hand loosely on the steering wheel and my foot ready to tap the brake if something went wrong. Until I develop more confidence in this beta version released for testing, I will exercise extreme caution for safety until this version proves itself to me. I could do testing on easy streets but that would not be an honest assessment of it's capability, So, this video has many challenges to the artificial intelligent Full Self Drive that have been a problem in prior releases.
