There an are some fantastic fly dressers out there and one who inspires me is Wullie Munn who recently posted a video on Facebook of a crippled midge. There isn’t much that’s new in fly tying but you can find lots of inspiration from guys like Wully who produce some of the best examples of top fly tying out there for trout fishing in the UK.

The Crippled midge is getting a lot of publicity at the moment up in Scotland with it accounting for lots of early season trout when the fish are looking up.

Fish it as a dry with a drop of muslin over the back to keep it in the surface film or twiddle them back in a slow figure of eight either way produces a pull from the trout.

Best tied on a light wire hook such as the Fulling Mill 5020 Grab Gape which will help keep it on the surface.
