▶ What is Monument

Let's start with Monument. Monument refers to any design, scheduling, or production technology that has large-scale requirements and lengthy changeover times.

This means that designs, orders, or products need to be brought to the technology and then wait in a queue for processing.

Monumental technology can be expensive to purchase and maintain, and it often requires a large workforce to operate effectively.

▶ What is Right Size Equipment

Now, let's talk about Right-Sized Tools. These are process equipment that is highly capable, easy to maintain, and quick to changeover.

They are also designed to be installed in small increments of capacity, which facilitates capital and labor linearity.

Examples of Right-Sized Tools include small washing machines, heat treatment ovens, and paint booths that can be placed in process sequence in cells to facilitate continuous flow.

▶ What's the difference between Monument and Right-Sized Tools?

The main difference is that Monument technology requires large-scale investments and lengthy changeover times, whereas Right-Sized Tools are designed to be easily scalable and adaptable to changing production needs.

Monument technology can also create bottlenecks in the production process, which can cause delays and increase costs.

On the other hand, Right-Sized Tools allow for increased flexibility and agility in the production process.

They are also typically less expensive to purchase and maintain, and they require fewer employees to operate.

Right-Sized Tools can be easily rearranged to accommodate changes in production needs, which means that companies can quickly adjust to market demands.

▶ Conclusions

In summary, Right-Sized Tools are a key aspect of Lean Manufacturing because they provide flexibility, agility, and scalability in the production process.

By contrast, Monumental technology can be expensive, slow, and inflexible, which can create bottlenecks and delays.

For companies looking to optimize their production processes, adopting Right-Sized Tools is a smart and effective strategy.
