Today we experience #vanlife. The movement that aims to free us from the binds of a schedule and responsibilities, while allowing us to explore the world and live a minimalist lifestyle. The vanlife movement has taken the US by storm. I thought I’d give it a shot in Los Angeles.

Although I do not commit to living out of a van in this video, I do commit to understanding the pros and cons of van life while experiencing it in a very nostalgic 1971 Volkswagen Westfalia. This tiny van is equipped with a flawless 1776 engine, a 4 speed manual transmission, and sleeps three (sort of) comfortably. This nomad lifestyle has college students dropping out in record numbers to attempt a fresh start. Although few will manage to adapt to this lifestyle and actually make a decent living doing so, many others are faced with the harsh reality that often times, the cons heavily outweigh the pros.

I found a better way of putting a van like this beautiful VW Bus Westfalia to use in Los Angeles. Simply using it for the weekends to make any outdoor experiences that much more convenient. Although I’m a city boy, I gave this vanlife movement a brief shot and have found that there is definitely value in experiencing the world on your own terms. If you can manage to make a decent living while traveling the world, a van is a fantastic form of doing so.

I truly enjoyed making this vlog. I tried something that is totally foreign to me and gained an understanding of why so many young people are choosing the van lifestyle.
