Dr. Lewis First discusses infant and toddler biting and gives suggestions as to how to react when a child bites. He suggests substituting a stuffed animal or a cool washcloth to soothe a child. Dr. First mentions giving lots of attention to the bitten child and says to Never bite back.

Dr. First says if a child if bitten, the parent should wash the wound with soap and water. If the skin is broken, the child's pediatrician should be contacted regarding an antibiotic.

Dr. First is a pediatrician at Vermont Children's Hospital at Fletcher Allen in Burlington, Vermont.
